It's getting to that time of year where most of us succumb to the dreaded common cold. Unfortunately, I have already fallen prey and am sniffling away whilst writing this post.Instead of rushing straight to the local chemist to buy the latest wonder drug to beat those pesky runny noses and sore throats, I tend to try a few 'at home' tried and tested remedies first.
Now, I am no expert or Doctor, but I do find these things can help me to relax and feel better, when I feel lousy and run down.
Firstly, I make sure I drink plenty. I am quite bad at remembering to drink the daily recommended amount of water, but when I'm sick I do really try to drink lots of water and keep hydrated.
When I was young my Mum used to make us a honey and lemon hot drink, to help sooth our sore throats and warm us up. Little did I know all the wonderful benefits in the concoction, until I moved out and asked my Mum for the very basic recipe.
*The juice of half a Lemon, to give you Vitamin C, which helps fight off the cold.
*A generous squirt of honey. Honey has natural antibacterial properties, so helps heal the sore throat and kill those germs.
*Fill the cup with hot water and it's done. You can also add a but if sugar to taste if you want.
I also try to relax as much as possible.
A nice long soak in a lovely hot bath, not only opens my pores but my sinuses too and can also help if I have achy muscles.
So, I light my favourite candles, run a deep bath, get a magazine or put on some relaxing music and lie there for as long as I am able.
I then make sure I get plenty of sleep, so my body has plenty of time to fight the germs and recover. Then when I wake in the morning I should hopefully feel a tad more human again, and should be able to face the day, whatever it entails.
i hope this helps if any of you are feeling a bit rubbish, let me know any of your techniques to picking yourself back up again.
Until next time,
